What is Community Participation?
Assistance with Social, Economic and Community Participation is an NDIS Core Supports category that funds support for people with disability to engage with their community, develop social skills, and access recreational and leisure activities. It can be used flexibly across a wide range of activities, based on what the participant wants to achieve and what is written into their NDIS plan.
What's included?
- ✓Attending social events, cultural gatherings, festivals, and community activities
- ✓Sport, fitness, recreation, and leisure activities
- ✓Visiting places of worship, markets, libraries, or cafes with support worker accompaniment
- ✓Volunteering or participating in structured community programs
- ✓Building social skills, making friends, and developing natural support networks
- ✓Life skills development — budgeting, cooking, public transport, communication
- ✓Accompanying participants to cultural events and religious observances
- ✓Culturally specific community activities for CALD participants
- ✓Supporting young people to access youth programs

- →NDIS participants with 'Assistance with Social, Economic and Community Participation' in their Core Supports budget
- →Self-managed, plan-managed, and NDIA-managed participants all eligible
- →All ages — from early childhood through to adults and older Australians
- →All disability types and participants across Australia
