What is Community Participation?
Assistance with Social, Economic and Community Participation is an NDIS Core Supports category that funds support for people with disability to engage with their community, develop social skills, and access recreational and leisure activities. It can be used flexibly across a wide range of activities, based on what the participant wants to achieve and what is written into their NDIS plan.
What's included?
- โAttending social events, cultural gatherings, festivals, and community activities
- โSport, fitness, recreation, and leisure activities
- โVisiting places of worship, markets, libraries, or cafes with support worker accompaniment
- โVolunteering or participating in structured community programs
- โBuilding social skills, making friends, and developing natural support networks
- โLife skills development โ budgeting, cooking, public transport, communication
- โAccompanying participants to cultural events and religious observances
- โCulturally specific community activities for CALD participants
- โSupporting young people to access youth programs

- โNDIS participants with 'Assistance with Social, Economic and Community Participation' in their Core Supports budget
- โSelf-managed, plan-managed, and NDIA-managed participants all eligible
- โAll ages โ from early childhood through to adults and older Australians
- โAll disability types and participants across Australia
